APPLICATION PROCESS

Who should apply?
Current 8th and-9th grade may apply. Students who have at least a 3.0 GPA and embody the attributes outlined in the Student Profile should consider becoming a part of the Collegiate Academy.
Important Dates for the 2023/24 School Year:

January 29 & January 31 - student meetings at WMS & Cox
-
February 5 - parent interest meeting in the CHS auditorium at 6 p.m.

February 5 - applications open at 8 p.m.
-
February 14 - applications close at 10 p.m.

February 27 & February 29 - candidate interviews in the CHS cafeteria (3 p.m. - 6 p.m.)

March 15 - decision letters emailed **

March 22 - acceptance deadline **

The Online Application
Information required: student and parent/guardian names; parent/guardian daytime contact number; email address (for communication of interview date/time and application decision)

Collegiate Academy Standards: Through the Academy application, students and parents agree that the student will abide by the Collegiate Academy Standards (Academic, Behavior, and Extra-Curricular) if admitted to the program.

The Interview
Items to bring to the interview:

Report card (or transcript) for the previous school year and the first semester of the current school year

Attendance for the previous school year and the first semester of the current school year (Synergy ATD204 preferred – select all)

Discipline summary for the previous year and the first semester of the current school
Writing Sample
Applicants will be required to complete a writing sample when they arrive for the interview. You will have a maximum of 30 minutes to write. You may choose from the following questions:

Think back to a situation in your life where you had to decide between taking a risk and playing it safe. Which choice did you make? What was the outcome of your choice? Would you have made the same decision looking back on the experience or would you have made a different decision?

Think of a time you wanted to learn about something that was not assigned to you by a teacher. What did you want to learn? Why? How did you go about it? What did you learn about yourself as a researcher/learner through the process?

Mistakes don’t define us, but how we respond to mistakes does. Do you agree or disagree? Describe a time when you made a mistake. How did you respond? What did you learn about yourself?

Choose a piece or aspect of technology that has had the most negative impact on your world and explain why.
